Tefila by David Broza

“Tefila,” which means “prayer” in Hebrew, is a new album by David Broza, commissioned originally by Temple Emanu-El for Friday Night Hub, a new series of Friday Night Services for Young Professionals. Tefila offers new settings for some of the most familiar prayers and hymns in Jewish liturgy — and, for regular synagogue-goers, some of the most sacrosanct. Melodies heard during a typical Friday night service might range from European–based hazzanut, or cantorial music, to the folk-inflected tunes of late 20th-century composers Debbie Friedman and Shlomo Carlebach.
